The Battle in the Sunset on Saturday afternoon turned out to be just another notch in the belt for Bellarmine, although it was a very entertaining game.
Host St. Ignatius played hard right to the end, but they were unable to overcome the legs of Bells quarterback K.J. Carta-Samuels, or running backs Kenneth Olugbode and Joey Sanfilippo.
Carta-Samuels rushed for 91 yards and two touchdowns and passed for 101 yards and two more scores.
Olugbode never found the end zone but he wasn’t stopped one time on third down runs and finished with 127 yards rushing. Sanfilippo, who has reportedly run a 10.7 in the 100-meter dash, scored on a 29-yard run and 38-yard pass reception.
“I didn’t score today but it feels awesome coming off the field knowing I worked my butt off to help the team win,” Olugbode said.
Had the Wildcats ended the Bells winning streak against WCAL teams, it would have led this feature and shaken up the rankings a bit. Instead, the bell has now tolled 14-straight times for Bellarmine’s WCAL foes.
Still, with the caravan seeing every team in the top 10 on the field, Coach John Regalia and his Wildcats boys are not falling. They’re a solid team.
